What Is the SMART Tower?
This automated telescoping mast can be controlled and monitored remotely. It can operate on full automatic. Its controls, which are programmable, can set height, fully retract the antenna sections into each other. It can even report meteorological data.
Any unguyed tower, as well as any trailer unit, can be fitted with this modification.
Its technology transmits location, height, and wind speed data. The end user can utilize this data to fully retract the tower in high wind conditions or determine and set desired tower height.
The operator can control the tower via text messaging. You can also choose to install the SMART technology on any Aluma trailer unit. SMART technology gives not just tower control, but also the capability to control the Aluma generator and HVAC system located in the communication shelter. All these commands can be executed via text message.
Sometimes a text message alerts the user before initiating a response. Or the device can be set to simply report and respond without further human intervention. This is done by configuring presets on a keypad.
Operators are offered two options
First, to operate the computer controlled antenna system remotely via text messaging.
To get the computer-controlled antenna system working: First, the operator must log in. Once logged in, the operator has a series of action and non-action command options for communicating with tower, generator or HVAC.
If the SMART System receives an action command from the operator it will respond within seconds acknowledging the operator’s command with a text message stating request accepted. Simple non-action commands are used in order to receive live data from the tower/generator/HAVAC. E.g. Typical status means tower height, wind speed, and location. gen status provides current fuel level, amperage, volts. temp status provides shelter temperature.
In summary, the SMART Technology computer controlled antenna system is a unique piece of equipment that affords the operator options never offered or imagined capable in this tower industry before.
A Complete Computer-Controlled Antenna System
Other distinctive features of the SMART automatic telescoping mast include our High Wind Alarm. This alarm activates the system to automatically take control of the tower unit in extreme wind situations. Here is the sequence. The unit alerts the operator with an SMS text message. Upon receipt of the message, the operator has the option to bypass this feature and keep the tower up. (Note: we strongly advise against keeping the tower aloft in high wind.) However, if the operator ignores the warning message within a given time frame, the tower will lower itself.
Shortly after the anemometer senses drop in wind speed below a safe set point, the tower will automatically raise itself. When this process is complete, the SMART System alerts the operator with a tower raised message.

Another feature is the generator’s ability to self-start in order to recharge batteries after a certain period of time and maintain fuel in the lines.
